French and German insurers strengthen ties

The French Federation of Insurance Companies (FFSA) and the German Insurance Association (GDV) are strengthening their mutual cooperation after the election of the new European Parliament. Regular exchanges between the two organizations will be deepened in the future. This was agreed during a joint meeting of their governing and executive bodies in Brussels.

The insurance industry faces many economic and financial challenges in Europe. FFSA and GDV wish to draw regulators’ attention on the importance of maintaining a balance between the two essential missions of insurance: providing adequate protection to households and businesses, and financing the economy in the long-term. Moreover, the competitiveness of European insurers must be preserved in order to enable them to maintain their position among global industry leaders.

The ability of the insurance industry to innovate will help Europe to respond to the major new challenges facing the continent. Population aging, climate change, the major changes induced by the connected and digital world – these are some of the areas on which French and German insurers will focus in the coming month in order to exchange ideas and seek joint solutions.

“GDV and FFSA are to European insurance what the French-German alliance is to Europe: strong, reliable partners, and the guarantors of a long-term vision for our economies”, Bernard Spitz, the President of the French Federation of Insurance Companies, and Alexander Erdland, President of the German Insurance Association, agreed.
